Internationally Known Author Jumps onto Blog Bandwagon With Series of "Potshot" Articles

Phoenix, AZ (PRWeb) January 18, 2007 -- Boyé Lafayette De Mente, internationally known for his 60-plus pioneer business, cultural-insight, and language books on China, Japan, Korea and Mexico, has jumped onto the blog bandwagon with sites that offer a variety of articles, essays and book reviews.

Articles on his boyedemente.blog.com "Potshots" include: How American Males are Being Turned into Girly Men; How American Women are Becoming More Like Men; How Sexual Repression Leads to Violence and Male Prostate Problems; and Changing the Culture of Hate, Intolerance & Violence with a Simple Proven Training Process.

In the piece on the need for a new culture, De Mente points out that hate, intolerance, discrimination and violence have been the mark of mankind since the dawn of human history, and that all efforts to curb this characteristic behavior through laws, religions and other forms of influence have failed.

"In fact," he adds, "male-dominated religions, the largest, most organized and most powerful of these efforts, have fueled rather than diminished the hatreds, the intolerance, the discrimination and the violence that have plagued humanity since day one."

Books that are reviewed on boyedemente.blog.com include: How to Measure the Sexuality of Men & Women by Their Facial Features (extracted from his book Asian Face Reading); Which Side of Your Brain am I Talking To? (based on the right-brain left-brain theory that, among many other things, explains why men and women talk past each); and Why Mexicans Think & Behave the Way They Do--The Cultural Factors that Created the Character and Personality of the Mexican People.

Referring to the cultural factors that created the mindset of Mexicans, De Mente notes that "Mexico's traditional values and morals were forged in a caldron of aggressive religious intolerance, corruption, racism, male chauvinism, and an elitist political system that connived with the Church to keep ordinary people ignorant and powerless, and deny them the most basic human rights. Thus the traditional character of Mexicans was a mixture of medieval Catholicism, traditional Indian and Spanish-Moorish authoritarianism, machoism, personalism and violence."

In his manual for measuring the sexuality of people by reading their faces, De Mente refers to the process of reading sensual messages sent by the facial features as "people-sexing"--a term that is a take-off on "chicken-sexing," used in the chicken industry to separate newly hatched male and female chicks.

He adds: "People-sexing requires more knowledge than chicken-sexing, but it is also a lot more fun!"

Another of De Mente's blogs, boyedemente.blogspot.com, contains reviews of over a dozen of his other books, including: The Advantages of Using Both Sides of Your Brain; Samurai Principles & Practices that Will Help Preteens & Teens in School, Sports, Social Activities and Choosing Careers; Romantic Hawaii--Sun, Sand, Surf & Sex; Romantic Mexico--The Image & the Realities; Cultural Code Words of the Hopi People; and Cultural Code Words of the Navajo People.

In the Hopi and Navajo books, De Mente uses "culturally pregnant" key terms in the Hopi and Navajo languages as windows to their history, customs, mindset and wisdom--including revelations that are startling to most other Americans.

In his book on the advantages of using both sides of your brain, one of the provocative points that De Mente makes is that all women in left-brain oriented cultures [the U.S., and virtually all other countries except Japan are forced to use right-brain thinking and behavior in order to survive in their male-dominated societies.

The review of his book on samurai principles and practices points out that the education and training of samurai youth during Japan's long feudal age was precisely the kind of training needed by today's youth--how to set goals; learn discipline, diligence, perseverance, respect for others and self-respect, the importance of personal appearance, keeping things in order, using intuitive and emotional intelligence, and tapping into cosmic power.

The review of Romantic Hawaii notes that when the first white men showed up in Hawaii in 1778 it was the middle of a long fall-winter festival during which various sexual techniques were demonstrated by nude hula dancers, couples engaged in a "bowling for partners" game, and people played various other competitive sports. The foreign explorers assumed that the Hawaiians never worked and that sex was a universal sport--so to speak.

The review adds that when American missionaries showed up in Hawaii in 1820 they soon put a stop to these enlightened sexual customs and tried their best to completely and permanently ban hula dancing and surfing (in the nude, of course). But as time passed and the first generation of missionaries went to their reward, surfing, hula dancing and the pursuit of sensual pleasures regained some of the ground they had lost.

Today's Hawaii, the review continues, is not as laid back as it was in its pre-missionary days, but the sun, sand, surf and beauty of the islands still work their seductive magic on residents and visitors alike.

One of the more unusual of the books featured on boyedemente.blogspot.com is Once a Fool -- From Tokyo to Alaska by Amphibious Jeep, the tale of his 1957 crossing of the North Pacific and Bering Sea from Japan to Alaska on an amphibious jeep called "Half-Safe" (named after a deodorant that was popular back in the 1940s and 50s and used the slogan, "Don't Be Half-Safe!") -- a journey that took precisely four months and made the Guinness Book of World Records.

In one extraordinary scene described in the book, De Mente stands on the tiny prow of the jeep for several hours in a cold rain, with waves washing over the lower half of his body, pumping air into a torpedo-shaped tank holding 660 gallons of gasoline--normally behind the jeep at the end of a long tow-rope--to force gas into the jeep's inboard tanks--all the while with the tank jumping and rearing like a wild animal in the lashing rain and high waves.

For a self-described "hillbilly" born in a tiny farming-logging community called Mayberry in the Ozarks of southeast Missouri in 1928, De Mente has had a remarkable life -- having been involved with Japan, Korea, China and Mexico since the late 1940s as a member of an intelligence agency, student, journalist and trade magazine editor. His first book, Japanese Etiquette & Ethics in Business, published in 1959, was the "mother" of all business books on Japan and Asia, and is still in print.

His "cultural code word" books on China, Japan, Korea and Mexico -- based on using key words in the respective languages that serve as windows to the mindset and behavior of the people in these countries -- are widely used in academic and business circles around the world.

Three of his most recent bestselling titles are The Japanese Samurai Code -- Classic Strategies for Success; Samurai Strategies--42 Martial Arts Secrets from Musashi's Book of Five Rings; and Elements of Japanese Design -- Key Terms for Understanding & Using Japan's Classic Wabi-Sabi-Shibui Concepts.

Several of De Mente's books have been published in Chinese, French, German, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Polish, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish.

A 1953 alumnus of the famed Thunderbird Graduate School of International Management in Glendale, Arizona, De Mente now lives in Paradise Valley, Arizona and continues to make frequent trips to the Orient.
